Hand Me Downs
I ran across an interesting article today, Hand Me Downs. It contains a list of things that a father should pass on to his children. I think this is definitely a good read for anyone who has an influence in a child's life. Could be your kids, nephews/nieces, etc. A couple things I would add to the list:
- Favorite Song/Album: "Music is the soundtrack to life", leave behind your soundtrack.
- Respect & Passion for Nature: Instilling a love & respect for nature will help further generations appreciate the beautiful world around them, live, in person, instead of just watching it on the Discovery Channel. I also believe getting out and "roughing it" teaches appreciation for the luxuries of modern life, and helps create stronger family bonds.
- DIY attitude : Instilling a Do It Yourself attitude, helps vier us away from the "consumer" mindset. It also helps people learn to self teach, encourages inventiveness, and out side the box thinking. As well as a great understanding of how things in the world work and why, instead of just accepting that they do. This helps vier us away from a "technology trap" society.
